Week 21 Good-bye January

The school year is half-way over and January is almost a memory. The students are making strides and seem to be applying themselves to their studies. We all needed the Christmas break!

First, reminders and new information:

1. All students must wear/bring a winter coat to school. We try to have recess outside whenever possible even if it's cold. When students don't bring coats, we have to go inside. Playing outside and getting fresh air and sunshine makes a huge difference in everybody's attitude and performance.

2. The $60 Busch Gardens fee is due this Friday, February 1.

3. We will have a Valentine's Day basket raffle. Each student going on the end-of-the-year field trip needs to contribute $5 to purchase items for the basket... champaign, cookies, chocolates, etc. In addition, your student has five raffle tickets that must be sold or bought. The cost is $5 for one or $20 for five. The drawing is February 13, so please return the money before that date.

4. Other fund raising activities on the horizon are a student run loaded potato bar lunch and a yard sale like we had last year. We need everyone's help but will be relying on the student's to do the majority of the work since the trip is for them.

5. The latest update on the field trip is that Pete Beebe is joining as a chaperone and we have a 15 seater van rented for the trip. I will be driving my car to have some extra room for luggage. The plans are coming along nicely.

This week's assignments and due dates are as follows:

Monday

  • At least four chapters of The Narrative of Frederick Douglas or Day of Tears are to be completed.
  • The research paper outline and rough draft should be finished. I'll take a look at them.

Tuesday

  • I will give a genetics science test. A quizlet study guide is posted on Google classroom.

Thursday

  • I'm offering a redo of the citizenship test. I hope many take me up on this.
  • They will also take their spelling tests.

Friday

  • The students will have a geography test and their final research paper is due.
  • They will also hold discussions about their books.  I'll give them questions on Wednesday for them to use in preparation for these student led; student driven discussions. I'd love to have parents come and even join in the discussions.

As always, call or text me with questions or concerns.

Mrs. J
