Week 22 Thawing Out

Hello families! Now since the big chill is over, we can enjoy a week of warmer weather and consistent schooling. I've posted most of the assignments for the week on Google classroom. My intentions are to do this each weekend with the thought that some students and parents might benefit in looking ahead and planning out the week. I want to allow students to complete assignments ahead of time if they want while providing a schedule for those that may need a little bit of extra guidance. So please take a look with your child at what's coming up.

Research papers are due tomorrow. Now it's time to really buckle down and work on the actual Social Studies project. With all the research completed, the rest should be rather easy and enjoyable. This coming Friday, there will be time to work on the projects. The due date is Friday, February 22 with the school fair on Friday, March 1. This gives the students a little time to tweak their finished product.

Has your child mentioned that they are now allowed to listen to personal music? Let me explain... Each day for about 30 - 45 minutes, students have independent work time. This is time that they can work on writing, word work, assignments, reading - whatever they need to do. We are allowing personal music during this time with these conditions:

  • Headphones are used.
  • Playlists must be utilized. This prevents scrolling and losing work time.
  • Phones are put away and not used at any other times.
and most importantly -
  • All assignments are completed and turned in by their due dates.
The students have done well with this so far.

Reminder -
The Valentine Basket Fundraiser money must be turned in this week. Each student going on the Williamsburg field trip needs to contribute $5 for the basket and sell (or buy) 5 raffle tickets. This comes to $25 dollars total; a very small contribution towards a wonderful trip. Also, the $60 fee for Busch Gardens is due ASAP.

"I Believe" spirit week is Monday, February 11 - Friday, February 15.

Monday -  I Believe in Reading. Dress as your favorite character and bring your book. Parents please stay for the red carpet.

Tuesday - I Believe in Imagination. Be creative. Let your imagination soar.

Wednesday - I Believe in Travel. Dress from your favorite place in the world or as a traveler.

Thursday - I Believe in Love. Dress to represent love, spread love, and be love. Red, white, and pink fit the bill.

Friday - I Believe in Dreams. Wear your favorite pjs. Bring a blanket and a special stuffed animal. We'll have breakfast for lunch and watch a movie in class.

Whew...  There's lots going on. Hang in there - it will be Spring before you know it.

Mrs. J
